The Ultimate Staycation Guide to West Hollywood

Last weekend we decided that between work.. and well, more work, we were in desperate need of a getaway. On such short notice we figured a staycation was in order! But where?

With June being Pride Month here in LA, we thought West Hollywood would be the perfect place to escape to! It is literally at the cultural and geographical heart of Los Angeles, surrounded by must-see hotspots in every direction.

If you want to experience Southern California, booking a hotel in walkable West Hollywood will give you convenient access to everything and situate you in one of the hottest hubs of L.A. Follow our journey as we share our favorite places to Stay, Eat, Drink, Shop and Play in this Ultimate Getaway Guide to WEHO!

When we first started dating, Leo was living in a room in a house on the westside, and I was sharing a one bedroom with my girlfriend on Melrose ave in the heart of Hollywood. We didn’t have an abundance of privacy so on the weekends we would do little staycations to have some…alone time

*wink wink*

But since we are adulting pretty hard right now and have a house, we haven’t packed our bags unless it was for an actual trip.

We’ve staycay’d in The Valley, DTLA and of course a ton of beach resorts. This time though we wanted to go somewhere we knew well, but have never emeried ourselves in! West Hollywood seemed like the perfect fit for just this! It’s only 20 minutes from our house and we’ve never actually stayed there.

West Hollywood

With a population of over one third identifying as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender, West Hollywood has become a leader of communities in showcasing how to protect and advocate for equal rights for the LGBT community. WEHO is the world’s most Incredible & magical gay city with 25 Gay Bars, 26 Gay Shops, and 69 Gay Friendly Restaurants accessible on foot! (according to their Twitter page @GayWeho)

Okay, first things first. Where to stay?

The struggle is real when choosing the perfect place to get your R&R on in West Hollywood because there are so many good ones to choose from.

Stay

We chose to stay at Hotel Beverly Terrace. It’s a beautiful boutique hotel situated perfectly where Beverly Hills meets Weho!

Hotel Beverly Terrace is seriously the most charming little oasis and exactly what we needed! From the moment we checked in we felt like we were miles away from all the hustle and bustle and it kinda had a Palm Springs vibe.

From the smell of fresh Lily’s in the lobby to the courtyard over flowing with succulents; We picked the perfect place for us.

SIDE NOTE: White Lilies are my favorite flower!!!

The hotel itself is pretty small, but we actually LOVE that about this place! It’s so intimate and kinda feels like you’re living in a cool hollywood apartment during the 1950’s.

The first thing you notice after you check in and are walking to your room is the courtyard.

It’s how I imagine our future patio!

Just filled to the brim with all the plants of my dreams!

Clearly in my element…
Our room was so clean and simple.

With the cutest little accents like this “retro” yellow phone!

The bed was an absolute dream and the shower amenities by Gilchrist & Soames smelled unbelievably good.

Let’s be honest, a good bed, pillows and shower are key when traveling!

When we woke up on Saturday morning we went to Café Amici for a stellar continental breakfast! The spread was over flowing with fresh croissants, waffles, bagels, yogurt with granola and all the cereal your little heart desires!

There is also a full menu so you can order breakfast if you want.

The best part about Hotel Beverly Terrace is that it’s conveniently located right in the heart of West Hollywood in maybe one of the coolest spots it can be!

You can basically walk to some of our favorite places in LA from Hotel Beverly Terrace!

Coffee

A whole new take on latte art, thanks to @miku_yagi

If you’re looking for a morning pick me up and the drip coffee at breakfast won’t do, check out Verve Coffee Roasters! It’s all of about .2 miles from Hotel Beverly Terrace and they have some seriously good joe!

Brunch

After we grabbed our morning brew at Verve

We headed back to our hotel just in time for Brunch at Café Amici.

I mean, did Saturday even happen in LA if you didn’t brunch?

Café Amici is a cozy bistro with a simple rustic dining space serving a menu of traditional Italian dishes located right in the Hotel Beverly Terrace.

Now, when we say that this is the perfect brunch spot; we aren’t just saying that.. it’s legit what brunch dreams are made off!

Hidden perfectly off Doheny Drive, Café Amici looks like the type of place celebrities hide from the paparazzi at.

It was such a beautiful day so we decided to sit on the patio. Concealed by tall walls of lush green hedges amd strands of hanging lights strung above your head, it has a very homey, cozy feel.

Immediately we were greeted with Joy!

No, literally our waitresses name was Joy and she was just sooo sweet! She really made the whole experience that much better!

Let’s get to the food

This place wins alone on the complimentary pita bread with hummus and tomato/basil! It was seriously ta die for!

We ordered a bottle of Rosé and Salumi E Formagi (meat and cheese) to start.

Oh just another day in LA….day drinking some rosé and munching on avocado toast.

So basic. We know.

I mean… How LA can you be!?!?

We love it!

We then ordered Avocado Toast, an unbelievable salmon salad and some eggs and bacon.

It was all so delectable!! We honestly can’t believe we didn’t know about this place sooner!

We will definitely be back to this hidden gem very soon!

After all that deliciousness we were looking to just kick it and relax; so we found the perfect refuge up on the rooftop lounge!

We can’t say enough about this place! First off, we love a good rooftop lounge!

Second, Give us a bed that is socially acceptable and we will lay on it!

There is so much room up there too! It has some seriously party space potential!

And the views of the city are pretty awesome!

All while being surrounded by bright green beautiful plants, palm trees as far as the eye can see and endless California blue skies.

Also, can you believe we had this whole place to ourselves!?!?  That’s a perk when you staycay’ All the tourists are out and about during the day We could’ve laid up there all day! Oh wait… We did!!

More Food

We have said it once and we will say it one billion times! Gracias Madré!

Man we love this place! It’s a meatless Mexican fare, all vegan & organic restaurant.

Plus they have a big tequila & drink menu, in a SUPER chic, insta worthy space.

Drink

If you’re looking to go out go out, Barneys Beanerie is a solid go to for us. We like this place for so many reasons! It has a rich history and boisterous atmosphere. There is a serious buzz in the air!

This actual location is the original branch of a landmark local chain serving an eclectic mix of pub grub in kitschy digs. Opened in 1927, the Beanery was frequented by stars like Jean Harlow, Bette Davis, John Barrymore and Clark Gable.

Then in the ’60s, it became a popular hangout for L.A.’s ill-fated musicians like Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin (whose favorite booth was #34).

Play

Now if you really wanna have some fun in WEHO, you have to check out Hamburger Marys!!

This place is a gay-themed and LGBT-friendly burger restaurant chain that started in San FranciscoCalifornia, in 1972. Their motto is:

“An open-air bar and grill for open-minded people”, along with, “Eat, Drink, and Be…MARY!”

This place not only has amazing food but they offer late-night entertainment such as MaryOke, HamBINGO, weekend DJs, and drag shows! It’s honestly the best place in the gayborhood!

Shop & Explore

Man o man is the shopping endless. First of all you are minutes away from the world famous Rodeo drive.

But our favorite place to shop in the whole world is right down the road. Melrose ave! We love going to the thrift stores and just getting lost in all the ridiculous stores down there!

Click HERE to read all about our favorite ones!

Drink Some More

With so many gay bars to choose from which is the best? Well, they are all amazing! but you can’t go wrong with The Abbey.

They have great drinks, awesome sharable plates, a cool outdoor patio, live entertainment and a dance floor!

Here are a few more incase you wanna go bar hopping!

Bar Lubitsch Trendy, Russian-themed bar is laid-back, but draws crowds looking to dance on the weekends.

Now Boarding Swankyaviation-themed bar with midcentury-modern decor, live music & happy-hour specials.

Saint Felix Stylish yet comfy gay-friendly lounge offers global fare & inventive drinks, plus outdoor seating.

Doheny Room Sexy spot full of old-Hollywood glam, American bites & classic cocktails with a twist.

Harlowe Bar Cool & sophisticated haunt offers classic cocktails on tap & small bites by Eric Greenspan.

If all else fails… The Sunset Strip is right down the street too! That’s what’s great about WEHO!!! Its got it all!

We always have a great time in West Hollywood, but this time was a little extra special! A big Thank you to Hotel Beverly Terrace for hosting us at the hotel and Café Amici!
