Explore the Westside in California

Our very favorite part of living in Los Angeles is being so close to the ocean and everything that comes along with that. From Malibu to Santa Monica and everything in between! We want to spend everyday where the air is as salty as the people.

Now, the westside is pretty large and has A LOT of options when it comes to where to eat, drink, shop or stay. So we have broken these place up by cities so it’s easier to narrow down where you’re gonna go explore. Grab your flip flops and head to these coastline musts! You won’t wanna leave either!

(and you’ll most likely run into us getting into some sandy fun!)

It’s no secret that LA has some of the best food around and our beach communities are where most of that action is taking place! Take a trip down PCH or Abbot Kinney blvd and you’re sure to find some of the most mouthwatering, heavenly food on earth. As always most of these places are vegan / vegetarian centric so if your looking to put meat in your mouth call your boyfriend ;p

Here are some of our favorite places to eat when we are near the sea…

WESTSIDE EATS:MALIBU:

Sunlife Organics An organic juice bar that sells smoothies and juices, organic salads… organic everything really. We love this place because beyond that, There’s a real sense of community and love behind what they are doing there.

Ollo We LOVE this place!!! OLLO is a family owned, locally sourced California cuisine with Mediterranean and Italian influences. The decor on the inside has such an open airy feel with a lot of natural light and huge indoor foliage. Try the Roasted Cauliflower & Quinoa Crusted Pizzetta! YUM!

John’s Garden Fresh Health Store A serious Malibu landmark! Delicious sandwiches, salads, soups and juices!

Cholada Thai Beach Cuisine A “funky” Thai beach shack. Nestled on PCH in Malibu this place is dishing up traditional thai curries, noodles, salads and weekday lunch specials in a relaxed beachside spot.

Malibu Farm Pier Cafe This place is literally on the Malibu Pier! It’s one of those spots thats makes you feel like you are right in the heart of the bu! From the yummy food to the unbelievable decor and of course the crazy good view. We’re pretty sure this one’s a win.

Inn of the Seventh Ray The only word to describe this place is magical. Every time we go we literally feel like we’re walking into The Shire. We personally like this little oasis at night. Dine by candlelight under the stars, grand old sycamores, waterfalls along winding brick pathways. They really have an atmosphere unlike any other in the Los Angeles area, and a chef who is constantly reimagining what great food should be. Perfect anniversary or date night!

The Topanga Table Tucked in the heart of the Santa Monica mountains. It’s a real relaxed California atmosphere and serve’s up some bomb breakfast and lunch! What we love most is their menu focuses heavily on locally sourced organic ingredients.

The Malibu Cafe We have gone here for birthdays and special events but you can also just go for the fun of it! In the heart of the canyon, Malibu Cafe is so good! Their wine and food is great without saying but what makes this place so cool is that they have games for everyone. You can play a bunch of games like corn hole, pool, giant chess and jenga! It’s super kid friendly and you can jump in a paddle boat with your glass of wine and watch the sun set over their little lake!

Neptunes Net Such a classic LA spot where fresh catches, burgers & beer are served at picnic tables overlooking the ocean. We love to grab a bite and watch the surfers across the street at county line.

Paradise Cove Beach Cafe Surfside tropical drinks & American fare in an enclosed, airy cafe and a cute patio with tables right on the sand! We have to admit this place can be kind of a tourist trap… but we love their big blue beds on the beach! We love to spend the day sipping an umbrella decorated drink and laying out during the week -when the crowds are at work- Make sure to get there early before all the beds are gone!

WESTSIDE HOTELS:The ultimate goal is to live at the beach isn’t it? It sure is ours! Studies show that moving closer to the sea “significantly improves people’s well-being”! It’s also possible that the people living closest to the coast are simply wealthier and have access to better health care… but we know we feel better when we’re within miles of the ocean! Until we’re all rich enough to own a beach house, here are some swanky beach front properties that will have you digging your toes in the sand and not wanting to check out.
