Museum of Selfies Hollywood

We love a good selfie like the next person. There is something so intimate about a one on one pic with yourself. Arm extended like there was no one else around to ask. The awkward moment where you don’t know whether to look at yourself on the screen or gaze into the camera of nothingness… It’s just great!

At the Museum of Selfies in Hollywood, turn your dreams of being an Instagram celebrity or the next Kim Kardashian into reality! Perfect for families and influencers alike, the Museum of Selfies immerses guests in the world of selfies and lets visitors take a deep dive into the fascinating history and unseen depths of this popular cultural phenomenon. To Selfie or Not to Selfie

Before we show you all the amazing fun rooms lets get down to some selfie business. In 2013, the Oxford Dictionaries announced their word of the year to be “selfie”, which they define as:

sel·fie
/ˈselfē/

noun

INFORMAL
  1. a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.

The Very First Selfie

The very first selfie was taken in 1839 by an amateur chemist and photography enthusiast from Philadelphia named Robert Cornelius. Setting up his camera at the back of the family store in Philadelphia, Cornelius took the image by removing the lens cap and then running into frame where he sat for a minute before covering up the lens again. On the back of the image he wrote “The first light Picture ever taken. 1839.”

Some Selfie Stats

1,000 selfies are posted to Instagram every 10 seconds. There are 93 million selfies each day, which would represent 2,583,333 rolls of film. 19 out of 20 teens have taken selfies. Considering the average lifespan is 27,375 days, an average millennial is expected to take 25,700 selfies during their lifetime. That’s close to one selfie daily!

Selfies have also become risky business! More than 250 people worldwide have died while taking selfies in the last six years!

True Story

Here in LA, a woman’s selfie at an art exhibit went terribly wrong; She was taking a selfie and knocked it over! Destroying $200000 worth of art when she stumbled.

We highly recommend using caution and your wits when trying to get that perfect insta worthy pic. But lets be real, is any picture worth your life? To that we say nope!
